Authur Gorman Campaign Update

Authur Gorman Campaign Update

First, thank you. I know everyone has busy lives, and the fact that so many of you are willing to give your time, put one of my signs in your yard, knock on doors, come to events, or even just tell a friend about the campaign means more to me than you probably realize.
We have a busy few weeks ahead, so I wanted to give you a quick update and let you know where I could use some help.
Door Knocking — Come Walk With Us!
If you’re willing to spend a Saturday morning getting a little exercise and talking to some of our neighbors, we’ll be meeting at Heritage Coffeehouse in Shasta Lake City at 9:00 a.m.
We’ll be knocking doors for my campaign as well as Camille King and Linda Glass.
I know knocking on a stranger’s door isn’t everyone’s idea of a relaxing Saturday morning. 😂 But I’ve found that most people are genuinely kind, and there really is no substitute for looking someone in the eye, listening to what matters to them, and asking for their vote.
And I promise, we won’t make you give a speech.
Our Fundraiser — August 28th
Our fundraiser is coming up **August 28th! **
We could really use some extra hands beginning at 11:00 a.m. that morning. We’ll be setting up chairs, tables, tablecloths, place settings, decorations, and doing all the little things that make the evening come together.
During the event, we also need a few runners and flaggers to help keep things moving.
Tickets are available through August 21st, so if you haven’t gotten yours yet, please do. And please invite a friend! We want this to be a fun evening with good food, good people, and hopefully not too much talking from the candidate.
We also still need five desserts donated. If you can help with one, please let me know. I’m willing to personally verify the quality of any dessert before it is served. Strictly for campaign purposes, of course.
About Those Signs…
I’m still working on getting signs out to everyone who has requested one.
If you’ve asked for a sign and haven’t gotten it yet, I haven’t forgotten you. You may just wake up one morning and discover that you have a present from me.
Teresa and I haven’t seen a lot of campaigning from our opponents yet, but I assume that will change soon. The Democratic Central Committee is helping their campaigns, so we know we have work ahead of us.
Our strategy is pretty simple: work hard, knock on doors, talk to people, listen, and earn votes one person at a time.
Coming in September — Postcards!
For those of you who would rather not knock on doors, I have another job coming your way.
In September, we’re planning a handwritten postcard campaign for Teresa and me.
There is something different about receiving a handwritten note, and we want voters to know there are real people behind these campaigns. Stay tuned because we’ll be sending out more information soon.
September Board Meeting
Finally, campaigning isn’t the only thing going on. I still have a job to do.
The next Shasta County Board of Education meeting is Wednesday, September 9th at 6:00 p.m.
We have several important issues expected to come before the board, including:
A possible censure of Jessica French
Continued discussion of Policy 5145.3, the bullying and discrimination policy, including provisions involving preferred pronouns and information being withheld from parents
Consideration of an official seal for the Shasta County Board of Education
Continued discussion about the oath of office required of teachers
I brought the oath issue forward because I wanted to know whether the required oath was actually being administered. I was told that it was. Now I would like to see the documentation confirming that it was administered before employment. I don’t think that’s an unreasonable request. If we’re going to have requirements, we should be able to show that we’re following them.
There is a lot happening between now and November, and I certainly can’t do all of this by myself.
Thankfully, I don’t have to.
Whether you’ve knocked on 100 doors, put up a sign, bought a dinner ticket, donated something, shared a post, written a check, prayed for us, or simply told your neighbor, “Hey, I know this guy, and he’s not completely terrible,” you are helping. 😉
I’m incredibly grateful for every one of you.
Thank you for trusting me, supporting me, and being willing to stand alongside Teresa and me as we work our way toward November.
See you out there,
Authur Gorman
